Leather selection:
I only use 100% Italian vegetable tanned leather in my leatherwork.
This type of tanning technique is completely eco-friendly, in fact it is characterized by the use of solely natural substances as tanning agents, which are neither toxic nor harmful to humans.
Another important characteristic of vegetable-tanned leather is greater pliancy, vitality and responsiveness to external agents; this is why while, on the one hand it has the great advantage of being able to undergo multiple processes (dyeing, tooling and various types of engravings), while on the other hand it requires greater care and periodic maintenance: it must be coated with a light layer of straw-coloured oil, neutral cream for shoes or grease for leather with a soft cotton cloth (I personally use a product composed of carnauba wax and beeswax, which absorbs easily but which keeps the treated surface “greased” for a long time).
Regardless of regular maintenance, this type of leather will tend to “age”, but this does not mean that it will be less beautiful and valuable, on the contrary! Leather gets better with age, over time it weathers many adventures and situations with you: you will feel as if the object made of this leather, which you are in the habit of using and that is your constant companion, is “aging” with you.
